Off-label prescribing is the legal, evidence-supported practice of prescribing an FDA-approved medication for a condition not on the FDA label. By some estimates, 1 in 5 U.S. prescriptions is off-label — recognized by the FDA, AMA, and courts as part of medical practice.
YourMD’s primary weight management GLP-1 prescribing uses Wegovy® (semaglutide) or Zepbound® (tirzepatide) — the FDA-labeled products for chronic weight management. These qualify for manufacturer savings cards and insurance support.
All off-label decisions are documented in your medical record with clinical rationale and your informed consent per Section 15 of our Prescribing Policy. FDA: Understanding Off-Label Prescribing →

BOXED WARNING — Wegovy® (semaglutide): Wegovy® causes thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents at clinically relevant exposures. It is unknown whether Wegovy® causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma, in humans. Wegovy® is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
BOXED WARNING — Zepbound® (tirzepatide): Tirzepatide may cause thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use Zepbound® if you or any of your family have ever had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Report symptoms of thyroid tumors (neck mass, dysphagia, hoarseness, dyspnea) to your provider immediately.
Important Safety Information: Our weight management program prescribes only FDA-approved GLP-1 medications (Wegovy®, Ozempic®, Zepbound®, Mounjaro®) — we do not dispense compounded GLP-1. For other treatment categories (hair restoration, dermatology, peptides, vitality, hormone therapy), we partner with licensed compounding pharmacies; while individual ingredients may be FDA-approved, compounded formulations themselves are not FDA-approved drugs and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or manufacturing standards. All medications are prescribed after an individual clinical evaluation by a licensed physician. YourMD Telehealth does not prescribe controlled substances. This service is not a substitute for emergency medical care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
