1. How Prescribing Works
When your YourMD physician determines that a medication is medically appropriate for you, they will electronically prescribe it through our certified e-prescribing system (MDToolbox). Your prescription is sent to a licensed pharmacy: for most medications, a retail or low-cost online pharmacy that works for you; for a compounded medication, a licensed compounding pharmacy selected by your physician; for brand-name GLP-1 medication, the manufacturer’s pharmacy program or your pharmacy.
2. Physician-Patient Relationship
All prescriptions are issued by board-certified physicians affiliated with United Medical Group after establishing a valid physician-patient relationship through a telehealth consultation. This includes:
- A real-time consultation via video, audio, or chat
- Review of your medical history, current medications, and allergies
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Discussion of treatment options, risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Documentation in your electronic health record (SOAP notes)
Our physicians will not prescribe medications without a proper evaluation. If a medication is not clinically appropriate for you, your physician will recommend alternatives or refer you to an in-person provider.
3. Compounded Medications
Some medications prescribed through YourMD Telehealth may be compounded medications. Compounded medications are custom-prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies based on your physician's prescription. Important information about compounded medications:
- Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products. They are legally prepared by licensed pharmacies under Section 503A or 503B of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
- Compounded medications are prepared using FDA-approved active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from FDA-registered suppliers.
- Your physician has determined that a compounded medication is medically appropriate for your individual needs.
- Compounding pharmacies are regulated by state boards of pharmacy and must comply with USP standards for sterility and quality.
- Compounded medications are not the same as, equivalent to, or generic versions of any FDA-approved drug.
- YourMD does not prescribe compounded GLP-1 medications (compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide). GLP-1 weight-management treatment uses FDA-approved brand-name products only (Wegovy®, the Wegovy® pill, Zepbound®, Foundayo™).
4. Pharmacy Partners
YourMD Telehealth works with licensed compounding pharmacies that meet our quality and compliance standards. Our pharmacy partners:
- Are licensed and inspected by their respective state boards of pharmacy
- Comply with USP 795 (non-sterile) and USP 797 (sterile) compounding standards
- Use FDA-registered active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) suppliers
- Prepare each compounded prescription only after you accept its final price proposal
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and have Business Associate Agreements with YourMD
Compounded preparations are prepared by a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy (for example Hallandale Pharmacy or Valiant Compounding Pharmacy); the dispensing pharmacy is named on your prescription label. Brand-name GLP-1 medications are dispensed by the manufacturer’s pharmacy program (NovoCare® Pharmacy or LillyDirect™) or a retail pharmacy, not by YourMD.
YourMD.online, LLC does not own, operate, or directly control any pharmacy. Our pharmacy partners are independent, licensed entities. Your physician selects the pharmacy based on your medication needs and location.
5. No Controlled Substances
YourMD Telehealth does not prescribe controlled substances of any schedule (II, III, IV, or V). This includes but is not limited to:
- Opioids (oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, tramadol, fentanyl)
- Benzodiazepines (alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam)
- Stimulants (amphetamine, methylphenidate)
- Sleep medications classified as controlled substances
- Testosterone and other anabolic steroids (Schedule III) — YourMD does not prescribe testosterone; your physician can evaluate symptoms, order labs, and refer you
Our e-prescribing system actively blocks any attempt to prescribe controlled substances, and such attempts are logged as security events.
6. State Licensing
Our physicians are licensed in the states where they practice telehealth. We can only prescribe to patients located in states where our physicians hold active medical licenses. It is your responsibility to be physically located in a state where your physician is licensed at the time of your consultation.
We currently prescribe in: Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and Wisconsin. We are actively expanding to additional states.
7. Prescription Fulfillment & Shipping
- YourMD does not dispense medication. A retail pharmacy fills your prescription for pickup or delivery and bills you directly.
- A compounded medication is prepared and shipped by the licensed compounding pharmacy, typically within a few business days of you accepting its final price proposal. Temperature-sensitive compounded medications (such as injectable preparations) are shipped by the pharmacy with appropriate cold-chain packaging.
- YourMD does not ship GLP-1 medications. They are dispensed and shipped by the manufacturer’s pharmacy program (NovoCare® or LillyDirect™) or filled at your pharmacy.
- When a pharmacy ships your medication, that pharmacy provides the tracking information.
- If a medication is unavailable or on backorder, your physician or pharmacy will contact you with alternatives.
8. Pricing & Billing
- YourMD charges for physician care: visit fees and monthly care-plan fees. Medication is never included in a care fee.
- Retail prescriptions, laboratory tests and imaging are billed directly by the pharmacy, lab or imaging facility (or your insurance), at their prices. YourMDRx Savings shows cash prices and coupons for many medications; YourMD does not set them.
- Compounded medications: once your physician selects the compounding pharmacy, you receive a final price proposal covering the medication, shipping and YourMD’s care fee. Nothing is prepared until you accept it. YourMD collects that one payment and pays the compounding pharmacy.
- YourMD does not bill insurance. Compounded medications are self-pay. Brand-name GLP-1 medication may be covered by your insurance through the dispensing pharmacy.
- Each subscription plan is billed at its own monthly price, one plan per treatment category. Every plan covers your physician care only, and the plan price is shown at checkout. GLP-1 medication is billed separately by the manufacturer’s pharmacy program (NovoCare® or LillyDirect™) or by your insurance.
9. Refills & Ongoing Care
- Ongoing prescriptions require periodic physician follow-up to assess treatment effectiveness and safety.
- Your physician will determine the appropriate refill schedule and follow-up frequency.
- You can request refills through your patient portal or during follow-up consultations.
- Refills may be denied if a follow-up evaluation is overdue or if your physician determines the medication is no longer appropriate.
10. Your Rights
- You have the right to choose your own pharmacy. If you prefer a specific pharmacy, inform your physician during your consultation.
- You have the right to know the name and location of the pharmacy filling your prescription.
- You have the right to a full explanation of any medication prescribed, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- You have the right to refuse any medication.
- You have the right to request your prescription be sent to a different pharmacy.
11. Disclaimer
YourMD Telehealth is a healthcare technology platform that connects patients with licensed physicians. We facilitate the prescribing process but are not a pharmacy and do not manufacture, compound, or dispense medications. All clinical decisions are made by your treating physician based on their independent medical judgment.
Individual results from medications vary. Not all patients are candidates for all treatments. Your physician will determine the most appropriate treatment for your specific medical situation.
