1. How Prescribing Works
When your YourMD physician determines that a medication is medically appropriate for you, they will electronically prescribe it through our certified e-prescribing system (MDToolbox). Your prescription is sent to a licensed pharmacy for fulfillment and shipped directly to your address.
2. Physician-Patient Relationship
All prescriptions are issued by board-certified physicians affiliated with United Medical Group after establishing a valid physician-patient relationship through a telehealth consultation. This includes:
- A real-time consultation via video, audio, or chat
- Review of your medical history, current medications, and allergies
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Discussion of treatment options, risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Documentation in your electronic health record (SOAP notes)
Our physicians will not prescribe medications without a proper evaluation. If a medication is not clinically appropriate for you, your physician will recommend alternatives or refer you to an in-person provider.
3. Compounded Medications
Some medications prescribed through YourMD Telehealth may be compounded medications. Compounded medications are custom-prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies based on your physician's prescription. Important information about compounded medications:
- Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products. They are legally prepared by licensed pharmacies under Section 503A or 503B of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
- Compounded medications are prepared using FDA-approved active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from FDA-registered suppliers.
- Your physician has determined that a compounded medication is medically appropriate for your individual needs.
- Compounding pharmacies are regulated by state boards of pharmacy and must comply with USP standards for sterility and quality.
4. Pharmacy Partners
YourMD Telehealth works with licensed compounding pharmacies that meet our quality and compliance standards. Our pharmacy partners:
- Are licensed and inspected by their respective state boards of pharmacy
- Comply with USP 795 (non-sterile) and USP 797 (sterile) compounding standards
- Use FDA-registered active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) suppliers
- Provide direct-to-patient shipping in discreet packaging
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and have Business Associate Agreements with YourMD
YourMD.online, LLC does not own, operate, or directly control any pharmacy. Our pharmacy partners are independent, licensed entities. Your physician selects the pharmacy based on your medication needs and location.
5. No Controlled Substances
YourMD Telehealth does not prescribe controlled substances of any schedule (II, III, IV, or V). This includes but is not limited to:
- Opioids (oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, tramadol, fentanyl)
- Benzodiazepines (alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam)
- Stimulants (amphetamine, methylphenidate)
- Sleep medications classified as controlled substances
- Anabolic steroids (testosterone is prescribed only through licensed compounding pharmacies with proper lab monitoring)
Our e-prescribing system actively blocks any attempt to prescribe controlled substances, and such attempts are logged as security events.
6. State Licensing
Our physicians are licensed in the states where they practice telehealth. We can only prescribe to patients located in states where our physicians hold active medical licenses. It is your responsibility to be physically located in a state where your physician is licensed at the time of your consultation.
We currently prescribe in: Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and Wisconsin. We are actively expanding to additional states.
7. Prescription Fulfillment & Shipping
- Prescriptions are typically filled and shipped within 2-5 business days.
- Medications are shipped in discreet, unmarked packaging to protect your privacy.
- Temperature-sensitive medications (such as injectable GLP-1 medications) are shipped with appropriate cold-chain packaging.
- You will receive tracking information when your medication ships.
- If a medication is unavailable or on backorder, your physician or pharmacy will contact you with alternatives.
8. Pricing & Billing
- Consultation fees are charged by YourMD Telehealth for the physician visit.
- Medication costs are separate and may be billed by YourMD or directly by the pharmacy, depending on the medication and partnership model.
- Prices listed on our website are estimates and may vary based on dosage, formulation, and pharmacy.
- We do not currently accept insurance for medication costs. Most compounded medications are self-pay.
- Subscription plans include both consultation and medication costs as a bundled monthly fee.
9. Refills & Ongoing Care
- Ongoing prescriptions require periodic physician follow-up to assess treatment effectiveness and safety.
- Your physician will determine the appropriate refill schedule and follow-up frequency.
- You can request refills through your patient portal or during follow-up consultations.
- Refills may be denied if a follow-up evaluation is overdue or if your physician determines the medication is no longer appropriate.
10. Your Rights
- You have the right to choose your own pharmacy. If you prefer a specific pharmacy, inform your physician during your consultation.
- You have the right to know the name and location of the pharmacy filling your prescription.
- You have the right to a full explanation of any medication prescribed, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- You have the right to refuse any medication.
- You have the right to request your prescription be sent to a different pharmacy.
11. Disclaimer
YourMD Telehealth is a healthcare technology platform that connects patients with licensed physicians. We facilitate the prescribing process but are not a pharmacy and do not manufacture, compound, or dispense medications. All clinical decisions are made by your treating physician based on their independent medical judgment.
Individual results from medications vary. Not all patients are candidates for all treatments. Your physician will determine the most appropriate treatment for your specific medical situation.
