Medication use

Oral Semaglutide: Getting the Morning Routine Right

Oral semaglutide has specific administration instructions that affect how it is absorbed. Confirm the exact brand, strength, and formulation dispensed. Do not substitute tablets or injection doses on your own, even when the active ingredient has the same name.

What to do next

  1. Take the tablet on an empty stomach when you wake up with plain water, no more than four ounces, following your product label.
  2. Wait at least 30 minutes before food, other drinks, or other oral medicines.
  3. Swallow the tablet whole; do not split, crush, or chew it. Follow the prescribed dose progression rather than increasing it yourself.
  4. Ask your pharmacist to coordinate other morning medicines and explain missed-dose directions for your product.

When to contact your care team

Review the full Medication Guide, including the thyroid-tumor warning and contraindications involving medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. Severe persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, or dehydration needs prompt care. Discuss pregnancy plans and other diabetes medicines before treatment.

Put it into practice

Write down a realistic morning sequence. If another medicine also has fasting instructions, ask the pharmacist to build a schedule instead of choosing which rule to ignore. If the pharmacy changes the product, confirm the new directions before using the old routine.
