Medication use
Atorvastatin: A Starting and Refill Checklist
Atorvastatin helps manage cardiovascular risk even when you do not feel a day-to-day difference. A useful routine includes taking the prescribed product, checking interactions, and knowing the follow-up plan. Tablets and liquid formulations may have different instructions.
What to do next
- Take the medicine according to the label and use a routine you can remember. Do not change the dose based on how you feel.
- Ask the pharmacist to review new prescriptions, supplements, and grapefruit use.
- Confirm when cholesterol or other monitoring tests are planned and who will review them.
- Tell the prescriber promptly if you become pregnant, plan pregnancy, or are breastfeeding.
When to contact your care team
Unexplained muscle pain or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine, needs prompt medical advice. Yellowing of the skin or eyes also needs assessment. A severe allergic reaction or chest pain requires emergency care. Review the full medication guide for other precautions.
Put it into practice
For a refill visit, bring the current bottle and describe any missed doses honestly. If cost or side effects led you to stop, say so before the clinician interprets a cholesterol result. That conversation can prevent an inappropriate change based on an incomplete picture.
Notes for your next visit
Write these in your own notes or on a printed copy. Bring them to your follow-up.
